INCIDENT SUMMARY: According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to State Route 40 near Sheridan Street in Argyle for a report of a car vs. pedestrian motor vehicle accident with injury.
During the investigation it was learned that a three-year-old female darted into the roadway and was struck. Witnesses reported that the child’s mother was attempting to secure a pet who had also run across the roadway at the time. A 2017 Mazda driven by Kailynn M. Hammond, 29, of Street Road in Argyle was westbound on State Route 40 and was unable to avoid the child.
The child was ultimately airlifted to the Albany Medical Center by Life Net medical helicopter with head and leg injuries. Hammond was not injured in the accident. At this time, drug or alcohol impairment is not believed to be a factor however all aspects of the incident remain under investigation.
