INCIDENT SUMMARY: According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Wednesday May 6, 2020 the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of the Battenkill River near County Route 61 in Shushan for a reported possible drowning.              

A male subject was recovered from the Battenkill River, and was later identified as William Rose, age 78 of Shushan. Mr. Rose was pronounced deceased on scene. Preliminary investigative results indicate that the incident was accidental as the subject was fishing in the river. The investigation is ongoing.
