[ARCHIVED] Second arrest in death investigation

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Wednesday, April 8th 2015, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Rachel Ball, 27, of Route 50 in Gansevoort. Ball was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 4th degree, a class C Felony.

On February 22nd 2015, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3065 State Route 4 in the Town of Kingsbury for an investigation into the death of a baby, Kayleigh Cassell. As a result of that investigation, narcotic drugs were located in the home and it’s alleged they were possessed by Rachel Ball and her boyfriend, Joshua Bennett. Bennett has previously been charged.

The final report regarding Kayleigh Cassell’s autopsy and toxicology results have not been completed. The investigation into Kayleigh Cassell’s death is ongoing.

Ball was arraigned in the Town of Kingsbury Court. She was remanded to the Washington County jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secure bond.

The case is being forwarded to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible Grand Jury action and possible additional charges.
