[ARCHIVED] Sheriff’s effort to provide School Resource Officers begins to take shape

SPO Vacancy Announcement

Recently, the Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a program to add School Resource Officers to school districts who contract with the Sheriff’s Office. These officers will carry the title of Special Patrol Officers and will involve the responsibility of maintaining order and providing a safe and secure environment in schools.

The position will hold all the powers of a peace officer when performing the duties of protecting property or persons on school premises and will be under the general supervision of the Sheriff.

Potential candidates must have the ability to develop positive relationships with children in a school setting along with the ability to relate and communicate well with others.

Minimum qualifications: retired member of a Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, a Division of State Police, Corrections, Parole or Probation Officer.

The rate of pay will be $20.59 / hour.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter detailing why they would be a good fit for the position and include any past experience with interaction with children and related activities. Candidates should also include an updated resume and application. Packets can be sent to:
