[ARCHIVED] Deputies investigate Hartford fatality

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Sunday May 27, 2018 at 9:23 pm, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to State Route 196 in the Town of Hartford for a report of a person being struck by a vehicle. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies located a deceased male subject in the roadway.

A driver of a vehicle was also located at the scene and told deputies that the male subject had been sitting in the roadway however the driver was unable to avoid a collision.  

Sheriff Investigator’s are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident including where the man had been before the accident and why he was in the roadway.

Anyone who may have seen a man walking in and around the roadway in the area of State Route 196 near McDougal Road around 9 pm is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 747-4623.

State Route 196 from County Route 43 to Shine Hill Road was closed for several hours as the accident was being investigated. Additional information will be released when the man’s next of kin is notified.
