[ARCHIVED] Granville man seriously injured in Kingsbury accident

According to Sheriff Jeffery J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigated a one-car, serious personal injury motor vehicle accident at 11:14 P.M. on Thursday March 26, 2015.

The accident happened on State Route 149 in the Town of Kingsbury, in an area locally known as Smith Basin. The driver, Duke Martin, 53, of Guilder Hollow Rd. in Granville was eastbound on State Route 149 when he failed to negotiate a curve. Martin's vehicle struck guide rails, continued onto the shoulder and struck a concrete bridge wall that connects State Route 149 with County Route 41.

Martin was extricated from his vehicle by members of the Kingsbury Fire Department and transported to Glens Falls Hospital by the Fort Edward Rescue Squad. Martin was reported to be in serious condition with lacerations and fractures to the head and chest. A medical helicopter was unable to fly due to weather conditions at the time of the accident.

The accident was investigated by members of the Sheriff’s Office. Also assisting at the scene were members of the Kingsbury Fire Department and the Fort Edward Rescue Squad. Alcohol involvement is being looked at as a possible contributing factor and charges are pending. The accident remains under investigation.
