[ARCHIVED] Accident closes section of Route 4 in Whitehall

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on January 19, 2018 at about 6:28 AM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 4 in the Town of Whitehall, south of the Village.

Units arrived to find three vehicles in the roadway and it was determined that traffic was slowing and stopping for an uninvolved school bus on Route 4. Ian. M. Sergeev was southbound operating a tractor trailer and was unable to stop before striking a 2012 Dodge van driven by Douglas J. Wilson. Wilson was stopped in traffic with other vehicles as they waited for a school bus to load passengers. Also struck as a result was a 2017 Chevrolet pick-up driven by Dale L. Sperl which was stopped in traffic in front of Wilson’s vehicle.

Wilson had to be extricated out of his vehicle by the fire department using the jaws of life. He was transported to the Glens Falls Hospital with back and neck injuries.

A portion of State Route 4 was closed for approximately 1 and 1/2 hours while the crash scene was being cleared. The accident is still under investigation and traffic citations are possible.
