[ARCHIVED] Hidden camera helps solve attempted burglary


According to Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Douglas M. Harrington age 59 of Argyle. The arrest is the result of an investigation into a report of a burglary to an Argyle home on Thursday, December 14, 2017. 

A woman from Coot Hill Road called 911 after she arrived home from work and found pry marks on the door to her home. Investigation revealed that entry was not made to the home, however, Harrington did unlawfully enter a barn on the property to steal a crow bar to use to attempt to pry open the door to the home. 

At least part of the incident was captured on a hidden camera on the property. The woman recognized Harrington as being the man captured on her camera and as someone who lives close by. 

Harrington was located at his home and admitted to the attempted break in, to try and steal alcohol. 

He was arrested and processed at the Law Enforcement Center in Fort Edward and held pending arraignment.Sheriff’s deputies Jason Diamond, Robert Danko, Mike Weber and Sheriff’s Investigator Matt Lohret handled the case.
