[ARCHIVED] Marissa Bickford-Rice indicted by Grand Jury

PRESS RELEASE                                                                                  APRIL 20, 2017

A Washington County grand jury has returned a 9 count indictment charging Marissa Bickford Rice, of Fort Edward with two counts of Assault in the First Degree, five counts of Assault in the Second Degree, one count of Reckless Assault of a Child and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The charges stem from events which took place in Fort Edward, Washington County, on September 21, 2016, which resulted in multiple injuries including a fractured proximal humerus, fractured skull and a traumatic brain injury to a four year old child in her care.

Schenectady County District Attorney Robert M. Carney stated: “My office was appointed to prosecute this case because the Washington County District Attorney’s Office had a conflict of interest based on prior matters handled by one of their Assistant District Attorneys. I am happy to be of assistance to my colleague Tony Jordan and have asked my Special Victims Bureau Chief Christina Tremante to handle this matter as she has extensive experience in both the prosecution and trial of this kind of case.”

As with any indictment, the defendant continues to be presumed innocent until proven guilty at a trial.  The indictment is only a charge and should not be considered a finding of guilt.
