[ARCHIVED] Argyle explosion prompts investigation

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Sunday, January 22, 2017, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sweet Road in the Town of Argyle for multiple reports of a large explosion that was felt as far away as Kingsbury and South Glens Falls.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that several individuals had placed an amount of an explosive called tannerite, inside of an old junk car and caused it to explode. Tannerite is a brand name of an exploding target used for firearms practice, also sold in kit form and containing the components of a binary explosive. There were no injuries or damage to other property.

The investigation is continuing however, preliminarily there does not appear to have been any laws broken.  The ATF has addressed the explosive and laws pertaining to it's use. See that document at the link.
