According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Thursday, February 19th 2015, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal car pedestrian motor vehicle crash that occurred on SR 29 in Middle Falls. As a result of this crash Shirley Coon, age 81 from Greenwich was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the course of the investigation it was learned that a second car had been involved in this crash and fled the scene. It is believed this vehicle struck Ms. Coon first, causing her to fall into the opposite lane of travel where she was struck by another vehicle.

Debris left at the scene from this first vehicle was collected and compared with local salvage yards and body shops. Through this comparison we have narrowed the search to a few possible vehicles.

It could possibly be a Dodge, Chrysler or Plymouth van / minivan from the late 1990’s to mid to late 2000’s. This vehicle is believed to have had damage to the driver’s side headlight assembly and possibly the passenger’s side mirror.

To date, no one has come forward acknowledging they were the driver of this unknown vehicle. If anyone has knowledge of this vehicle or any body shops, salvage yards or vehicle

Part stores that have had anyone come in to buy these parts since February 19th are asked to please contact Investigator Kristen Hardy at 746-2494 or 746-2475.
