[ARCHIVED] Fort Edward man charged with multiple felonies

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office has arrested John K. Mitchell, 50, of Broadway in Fort Edward.

Mitchell was arrested after an arrest warrant was issued for an incident that occurred on February 25, 2015. Mitchell is accused of unlawfully entering the residence of a female that he is familiar with and causing injury to her while forcibly stealing her cell phone. At the time, there was also a stay away order of protection in effect, prohibiting Mitchell from have any contact with the victim.

Mitchell was charged with robbery in the second degree, a class C felony, assault in the second degree, a class D felony, aggravated criminal contempt , a class D felony and burglary in the first degree, a class B felony.

Mitchell was arrested as he was being released from the Warren County Correctional facility on separate charges. He was arraigned in Fort Edward Town Court and committed to the Washington County Correctional Facility with no bail due to having two prior felony convictions.

The case was handled by Deputies Don Jett, Bill Holcomb, Paul Trottier and Sheriff’s Investigator Kristin Hardy.
