[ARCHIVED] Seriously injured child call leads to woman's arrest

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on September 21, 2016 at 10:51 am the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 603 Lower Wright Street, Fort Edward for a reported unresponsive 4 year old child.

Upon arrival, the child was transported to Glens Falls Hospital with serious physical injuries. After being evaluated by medical staff, the child was transported to Albany Medical Center with severe hemorrhaging on the brain and several cranial fractures. The child is currently in critical condition and on life support.

During the course of the investigation, Marissa Bickford-Rice, age 22, was charged with Reckless Assault of a Child, a class D Felony. It’s alleged that Marissa Bickford-Rice assaulted the child causing serious physical injury to the child’s brain.

Marissa Bickford-Rice was processed at the Sheriff’s Office, arraigned in the Town of Fort Edward Court, and remanded to the Washington County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 secure bond. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Fort Edward EMS and the New York State Police BCI, Forensic Investigation Unit and Major Crimes Unit.

The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review, possible grand jury action and possible additional charges. The investigation is ongoing and anyone who has any information in regards to the case please contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
