[ARCHIVED] Fort Ann woman charged with felonies

Amber Cheney

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Tuesday July 12, 2016, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Amber Cheney, 26, of Fort Ann. Cheney was charged with four (4) counts of offering a false instrument for filing 1st, a class E felony.

Based on the results of a joint investigation by the Washington County Department of Social Services and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Cheney is accused of submitting 4 forged Social Service forms to the agency, in an effort to gain benefits.

The Social Services Investigation unit noted the false forms, which prompted an investigation. No additional benefits were obtained.

Cheney was processed and released on an appearance ticket for a future court date in the Town of Fort Edward Court. The case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review, and possible additional charges.
