The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a property damage accident truck vs. tree on Higgins Road in the Town of Hebron recently. Upon arrival, Deputies found a 2001 Dodge pickup truck fully engulfed in fire. The truck appeared to not be occupied and Deputies located the driver, John F. Ballard, 62, of Morgan’s Lane in Comstock, New York.

Ballard was sitting in another vehicle and told deputies that he had lost control of his vehicle due to the roads being slippery. Ballard had a strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and failed multiple field sobriety tests.

Ballard was arrested and processed at the Salem Station where he tested a .13%. He was released to a sober, third party and will appear in Hebron Town Court in early March. He was not injured in the accident.

The arrest was made by Deputies C.J. Davidsen and Paul Trottier.
