[ARCHIVED] Carota arrested in Vermont

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on June 19, 2016, Robert Carota, 51, of Fort Edward, was arrested by the Vermont State Police. Carota was wanted by the Sheriff’s Office after an arrest warrant was issued for his arrest.

Early last week, Carota was observed by a Sheriff’s Office investigator violating an order of protection. Carota had just pled guilty to violating the same order of protection and fled the scene as he was stopped. He was able to evade officers before he could be arrested.

On June 17, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office contacted the Vermont State Police and advised them that Robert Carota was a fugitive from justice and information developed indicated that he may be staying in the Hubbardton area.

On June 19, 2016, Carota was located in an RV at the KOA Campground on Route 30 in Hubbardton, Vermont. He was taken into custody without incident. Castleton and Fair Haven Police assisted the Vermont State Police with the apprehension.

Carota was lodged at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Center on the charges of being a Fugitive From Justice and a charge of Violation of an Abuse Prevention Order. Bail was set at $50,000. Carota will be extradited back to New York after his charges in Vermont are satisfied.
