[ARCHIVED] Salem man arrested after firing shots at lost motorist

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Sunday June 19, 2016, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brian Tschorn, 36, of Route 153 Salem, New York. Tschorn was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, a class D Felony.

At approximately 11:45PM on Sunday June 19, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of some kind of dispute and gun shots being fired on Route 153 in Salem.

Subsequently, deputies discovered that the victim had been looking for a relative’s camp on Rte. 153 and was lost. He mistakenly drove down a long driveway off from Rte. 153 that led to Tschorn’s home.

The victim was confronted by Tschorn yelling at him to get off from his property. Tschorn then started shooting at the victim’s vehicle as he tried to turn around.

Several rounds struck the victim’s vehicle and trailer. One round entered the passenger’s compartment of the victim’s vehicle from behind narrowly missing the victim’s head before lodging in the instrument panel of the victim’s truck.

Tschorn was arrested, arraigned in the Town of Salem Court and held in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 secure bond. The case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and possible Grand Jury action and possible additional charges.
