According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Sunday February 22, 2014 at approximately 10:17 AM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3065 State Route 4 in the Town of Kingsbury for a report of an unresponsive child. Officers assisted Emergency Service personnel at the scene and a 1 year old female child was transported to Glens Falls Hospital.

The child, Kayleigh Cassel, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Due to the nature of the child’s injuries the child’s body was transported to Albany Medical Center to await an autopsy today. Investigators questioned several persons relative to the case. A search warrant was also executed at the residence as part of an ongoing investigation.

During the course of the investigation information was developed leading to the arrest of Joshua J. Bennett, 34, for criminal contempt in the 1st degree. He was arraigned and sent to the Washington County Jail.
