According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to East Street in the Village of Fort Edward to assist the Fort Edward Police Department with an agitated person at the scene of a domestic dispute on January 17, 2016 at 1:39 pm.
On scene, Sgt. Dean Watkins of the Fort Edward Police Department was speaking with 47 year old Prince Aporih outside of the residence. Aporih, who stands 6’ 9” and 230 lbs. was agitated and continued to make threats to kill the remaining people inside the East Street residence. Aporih then tried to force his way back into the residence as officers tried to stop him.
A struggle ensued as the officers tried to take Aporih into custody. Aporih elbowed Deputy Kyle Kolar in the face causing injury to the deputy's mouth. The officers were able to get Aporih handcuffed and he was transported to the Fort Edward Police Department.
Aporih was charged with felony assault in the second degree and multiple other counts including endangering the welfare of a child, menacing and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Fort Edward Court and sent to the Washington County Correctional Facility for lack of bail.
