[ARCHIVED] Have a Very Hairy Christmas

SGT Beard

In what is believed to be a first for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies will be allowed to grow beards for a one month period. The Deputy Sheriff’s PBA approached Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy with a fundraising idea with all proceeds going to the local Toys for Tots chapter.

The effort will honor friend and colleague, Sergeant Tommy Golden who recently passed away. Sgt Golden was well known locally for his efforts with the Toys for Tots program. Beards typically aren’t allowed at the Sheriff’s Office but after learning about the fundraiser, the Sheriff agreed allow it for the month of December.

No-shave November has typically been associated with men’s health awareness. The Deputy Sheriff’s PBA hopes no-shave December will earn lots of money for Toys for Tots. Most officers have never grown a beard other than on short vacations, so things should get interesting.

Each officer will pay an entry fee and will look to get sponsors to “help” their beard grow throughout the month. The PBA will also make a donation to the cause. You can help the cause too, monetary donations can be sent to the PBA at:

Washington County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association
399 Broadway
Fort Edward, New York 12828
(Toys for Tots in honor of Sgt. Tommy Golden)

At the end of the fund raiser, the PBA will present all proceeds that were raised to Toy for Tots and we hope it's a significant amount.
