[ARCHIVED] Two arrested for welfare fraud


According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Tuesday November 17, 2015, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Patrick Colon Jr., age 28 and Kirstie McCarthy, age 23 of Fort Edward for Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd, a Class D felony.

Colon and McCarthy submitted forms to the Washington County Department of Social Services to receive temporary housing assistance, which were determined to be forged.

Both Colon and McCarthy were arraigned in Whitehall Town Court, and released on their own recognizance to appear in Fort Edward Town Court at a later date.

The arrest was the result of the collaboration between the Department of Social Service and the Sheriff’s Office.
