[ARCHIVED] Hartford man accidentally killed

According to Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate an accident at a local business.

The Sheriff’s Office along with Hartford Fire Department and Argyle EMS was dispatched to Chapman’s fix it shop located at 5235 County Route 30 in the Town of Hartford on 10/27/2015 at approximately 11:50 AM, for a report of a male that had been run over by a tractor.

Robert J. Chapman 77, who resides at the location listed, was accidentally killed when he and a close family friend were trying to lift pallets loaded with containers of used cooking oil with a converted, make shift fork lift and was run over by the fork lift.

Sheriff’s Office believe several factors contributed to the accident that include, the terrain, the difficulty to operate the make-shift piece of equipment, the operators limited experience on that particular piece of equipment and possible mechanical issues.

The death is considered accidental in nature, and no impairment of any kind is considered to be a factor.
