[ARCHIVED] Scotia man arrested after attack with axe handle

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on August 25, 2015, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Peter D. Hockford Jr, 46, of Scotia, New York. Hockford was charged with assault in the 2nd degree, a class D felony, criminal obstruction of breathing, a class A misdemeanor and trespass, a violation.

Hockford is accused of attacking a male subject he was familiar with at a residence in the Town of Argyle. Hockford allegedly struck the victim with an axe handle and then proceeded to choke the victim with the axe handle. Hockford fled the scene as sheriff deputies were responding. The victim was transported from scene by EMS to Glens Falls Hospital for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries to head, neck and extremities.

Hockford was arrested and processed at the Law Enforcement Center in Fort Edward. He was arraigned in Argyle Town Court and remanded to the Washington County Jail with no bail, due to prior felony convictions. The case was investigated by Sheriff's Deputies Robert Danko, Brad Hamilton and Investigator Michael McWhorter. The case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and possible action of the Grand Jury.
