[ARCHIVED] Salem woman arrested after welfare fraud investigation

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Friday, August 21st 2015, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kayla Bennett, 29, of Salem, New York. Bennett was charged with grand larceny in the 4th degree, a class E Felony.

Based on the results of an investigation by the Washington County Department of Social Services and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Bennett is accused of failing to accurately report household income while receiving public assistance benefits. As a result, Bennett received $1,512 in benefits she was not entitled to.

Bennett was arrested, processed at the Law Enforcement Center in Fort Edward and issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Fort Edward Court on September 8th 2015 at 1:30 PM. The case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and possible Grand Jury action and possible additional charges.

The arrest was made by Sr. Inv. Anthony LeClaire.
