[ARCHIVED] Washington County Board of Elections Issues Update Message: 11/08 @ 8:00 PM

WC Board of Elections Message - 11082022 2000 hrs FINAL

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

11/08/2022, 8:00 PM

Earlier today Washington County Board of Elections Poll Inspection staff reported issues in which ballots at certain districts / poll site locations were not scanning appropriately into the election machines, those ballots, per procedure, were placed into the emergency ballot hold and secured to be reviewed later by Democrat and Republican representatives of the Board of Elections.

As Poll Inspection staff from a number of sites reported similar issues with certain ballots not scanning, a further review by the Board of Elections Commissioners and staff identified a printing issue that occurred with some ballots printed for poll sites / districts located in the towns of Argyle, Cambridge, Dresden, Easton, Fort Ann, Fort Edward and Granville.

Board of Elections staff printed new ballots for those sites / districts affected and those new ballots were distributed to the sites accordingly for immediate use for the remainder of the election. Washington County residents who voted on ballots that were not able to be scanned and read by the machine should know and understand that their ballots were secured at the time by the Poll Inspection staff members and will be counted in accordance with New York State Election Law.

The Washington County Board of Elections Commissioners have been in communication with personnel from the New York State Board of Elections multiple times throughout the day, providing updates and receiving guidance throughout the process.

The Board of Elections has coordinated with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for the retrieval and secure transport of all ballots cast at every poll site in Washington County back to the Board of Elections following completion of the election later this evening to be counted accordingly.

The Washington County Board of Elections Commissioners and our staff remain committed to maintaining the integrity of the election process and system, ensuring that every vote cast in Washington County will be counted.

Thomas Rogers                                               Jeffrey Curtis

Republican Commissioner                              Democratic Commissioner
