[ARCHIVED] Fort Ann accident slows traffic, driver arrested

According to Sheriff Jeffrey Murphy, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 1 car motor vehicle accident on State Route 149 in the Town of Fort Ann on Sunday afternoon (6/7/15) at 4:28 pm.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies located 1 car into the guide rails just west of Mattison Road. The operator was identified as Victoria A. Wemett, 42, of State Route 4 in Fort Ann.

Wemett appeared to be impaired and told officers she reached for a cigarette lighter when she drove off the roadway and into the guide rails. She was evaluated by Fort Ann EMS and was uninjured. Wemett failed multiple field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating while ability impaired by prescription drugs. She was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and failing to maintain lane. A sample of her blood was secured for testing.

Wemitt was processed at the Law Enforcement Center in Fort Edward and released to a third party. She is due in Fort Ann Court at a later date.

There was heavy traffic at the time which was impacted as vehicles had to be rerouted and later limited to one lane while the accident was cleared. The Fort Ann Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The accident was handled by Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Trottier and Sgt. Todd Lemery.
