[ARCHIVED] Sheriff’s Office issues travel advisory


The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has issued a travel advisory for Washington County due to a winter storm warning and hazardous driving conditions.

The advisory does not ban travel however does recommend that no unnecessary travel is made. Conditions are expected to worsen through the day as heavy snow is expected to develop into the afternoon.

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will lead to snow covered roads and poor visibility according to the National Weather Service in Albany.

In the event that travel is essential, motorists should do so with extreme caution taking the weather conditions into consideration.

Deputies have been handling minor accidents and vehicle off the roadways already as the roadways have become slippery in most areas of the County. Road crews are working to keep up with the storm. 

The Sheriff's Office will continue to monitor the storm and conditions in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety, highway crews, patrols and the National Weather Service.
