[ARCHIVED] Argyle woman killed in one car accident

According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on March 3, 2022 at 7:13 A.M. , the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a one car accident with serious injury on State Route 197 near Dowmont Road in the Town of  Argyle.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 1998 Chrysler that had left the roadway and struck a power pole. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Rachel R. Wells, 20, of County Route 47 in Argyle. Wells was alone in the vehicle and had been westbound on State Route 197 before losing control of the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Washington Coroner Robert Lemieux.  

A portion of State Route 197 was closed as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene. The cause of the crash and circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
