[ARCHIVED] Get all the credit you deserve with EITC

NYS Earned Income Tax Credit_Page_1

Earned Income Tax Credits

Earned income tax credits (EITC) are for people who work and meet certain income guidelines. The amount of the credit varies, depending on your filing status, family’s earned income, and the number of qualified children. You may get money back when you file your tax return, even if you don’t owe any taxes. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS), New York State, and New York City all offer earned income tax credits.

Are you eligible?

In order to qualify for any of the EITCs, you must meet certain requirements:

  • earn wages from employment or self-employment;
  • have a valid social security number (ITIN filers are not eligible to claim credits);
  • have a qualifying child living with you for more than half the year, or, if you don’t have a qualifying child, be at least 25 years of age and under age 65;
  • and have investment income of $3,650 or less.
