Incident Location: County Route 45 and State Route 40 intersection

Township: Argyle                Case #  2022-00809

INCIDENT SUMMARY: According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Friday January 21, 2022 the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of County Route 45 and State Route 40 in the Town of Argyle for a report of a personal injury motor vehicle accident.

Upon arriving, Deputies discovered a vehicle vs. dump truck accident as Argyle Fire and EMS units worked to extricate one of the drivers from her 2010 Subaru. That driver was identified as Ellen Bennett, 70, of Halls Pond Road in Salem. Witnesses told Deputies that Bennett had failed to stop for the stop sign on County Route 45 and pulled into the path of dump truck pulling a loader which was northbound on State Route 40.

The dump truck was a 2015 GMC driven by Dale W. Smith, 71, of Creek Bend in Stillwater. Both Smith and his passenger, Patrick E. Minor, 61, of Antone Mountain Road in Corinth were uninjured.

Bennett was extricated from her vehicle and transported to the Glens Falls Hospital by Argyle EMS with a head injury and possible internal injuries. She was later cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.

A portion of State Route 40 was closed for just over an hour while the scene was cleared.
