[ARCHIVED] Granville woman killed in accident


According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at approximately 10:30 PM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a two car motor vehicle crash on State Route 22, just north of the intersection with Mettowee Street in the Town of Granville.

Upon arrival, sheriff's deputies found two vehicles that had been involved in an apparent head on crash still in the roadway. Both vehicles had sustained extensive front end damage.

It was determined that a 2001 Buick Regal, operated by Elizabeth Gibson, 47, of Granville was travelling southbound on SR 22 near the intersection with Mettowee Street. At the same time, a 2003 Cadillac Seville, operated by a Kristina Loomis, 31, of Granville, was travelling northbound on SR 22. The two vehicles collided head-on, pinning both driver’s behind the wheel. Both drivers were extricated by Granville Engine and Hose assisted by Granville Hook and Ladder fire companies. Gibson was transported by Fort Ann EMS and succumbed to her injuries while in route o Glens Falls Hospital. Loomis was transported by Granville EMS to a landing Zone at Great Meadow Correctional Facility and airlifted to Albany Medical Center.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it is available.
