Township: Hartford                         Case #21-3260

INCIDENT SUMMARY: According to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy, on Thursday March 18, 2021 at about 7:36 AM, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot of a local convenience store on Route 40 in the Town of Hartford.

Deputies arrived to find a 44-year-old female who was making irrational statements regarding a suspicious package she was carrying that she said was “ticking”. Deputies convinced the woman to set the package down and evacuated the immediate area out of an abundance of caution.

The Sheriff’s Office also worked closely with Hartford Central School officials and lock-out procedures were implemented until the scene was cleared.

The package was inspected and later deemed safe by members of the New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit. The woman was transported to Glens Falls Hospital for evaluation.

A portion of State Route 40 was closed for a time between State Route 149 and Rowe Hill Road.
