mail

Washington County's sUAS (small Unmanned Aerial Systems) Response Team was recognized by DRONERESPONDERS as one of their "Outstanding Public Safety Drone Programs" for the month of October, 2020! The intent of the DRONERESPONDERS recognition program is to highlight and promote public safety drone/UAS programs for innovation, enhancing safety and improving operational effectiveness.

The county's sUAS Response Team is a joint team of professionals from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office & Department of Public Safety, which is available as a resource to any of our local municipal partners and Public Safety field partners throughout Washington County. Our response team members train together regularly and are FAA Part 107 Certificated remote pilots. Our primary mission is to aid in and support our local municipal partners (Towns and Villages) and our Law Enforcement, Fire / EMS and HazMat agencies.

The programs receiving recognition for October are:

  • San Diego CA Sheriff's UAS Team
  • Washington County, NY sUAS Response Team (DPS & Sheriff's Office)
  • Woodlawn, OH Fire Department

ABOUT DRONERESPONDERS

Throughout the U.S. and around the world you see them launching unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the sky during various types of emergencies and incidents.  These are the DRONERESPONDERS, and our ranks are growing every day as more organizations continue to embrace UAS for public safety missions.

DRONERESPONDERS is a non-profit program created to unite these new aerial first responders, emergency managers, and search and rescue specialists under a unified organization to help learn, train, and test with one another with the ultimate objective of maximizing drone operations for public safety.

The DRONERESPONDERS program is led by Chief Charles Werner (ret.) who serves as the director. DRONERESPONDERS is an official 501(c)3 non-profit Drones for Good™ program of AIRT, Inc.

With many thanks to Sheriff Murphy and our Board of Supervisors for their continued leadership and support. We are proud to be able to provide the technology, trained professionals and support to all of our municipalities and First Responder agencies throughout the county! Utilizing the technology, we have been able to enhance the efficiency of operations and increase the overall safety and response of our communities and First Responder personnel.
