Dropbox For DMV and County Clerk
***November 5, 2020: We are pleased to announce that there is now a designated drop box for County Clerk, conveniently located in the front of the building, Building A of the Municipal Center complex. Please feel free to utilize this drop box for transactions that may not require an appointment.

Updated information regarding phone numbers when scheduling an appointment: 

When scheduling an appointment, please note that the phone number you are entering should be a cell phone number that accepts text messages and can access a weblink. The system we use incorporates text messaging for an appointment reminder as well as sending a weblink for the check-in process. If you do not have a phone number capable of these functions, please do not enter a phone number and make sure to click “No Phone” when you schedule the appointment.

If you are utilizing the “No Phone” option, please make sure that you remain in your car until about 5 minutes before your appointment. At that time, please exit your vehicle and come to the door at DMV. Someone will be out to greet you. Please provide your full name and that you are here for an appointment.

***Please note, if you will need a "Searching" appointment (a Searching appointment is for you to research in the Deed Room/Vault space) for longer than 1/2 hour, please make sure to schedule multiple appointments in the system, one after the other, but please do not schedule more than a 2 hour block of time for searching. This will allow others to enter the building to conduct county clerk searching business as well.  

UPDATE 8/4/2020 Regarding Passport Applications: 
Effective August 3, 2020, the County Clerk's office is processing passports. Please note that you must have a check or money order to mail with the passport application. You will find all the necessary information and payment information on the Department of State Passport link: Passport Information . You must schedule an appointment through the County Clerk Appointments link, and if there is more than one person in your family applying, you must schedule a separate appointment for each person applying, due to the social distancing rule at this time.

***Effective April 1, 2020, the new Washington County Mortgage Tax Rate is 1.25%.

The County Clerk’s Office serves Washington County residents by efficiently recording, filing, issuing and maintaining a diversity of court, land and other public records. A list of those records and their associated fees, and copy and certification costs (PDF), is made available here in Adobe PDF format.

The public can acquire assumed business names, partnership certificates, U.S. passports and notary public certificates and renewals through the office. Application for pistol permit renewals are no longer handled in this office, but through the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Oaths of Office


Oaths of office are filed with the County Clerk and a directory of county, town and village officials with their contact information are maintained by the office.

Oversight Duties


The Washington County Clerk also has oversight of the local office of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, the Washington County Archives, and the Washington County Historian’s Office.

Passport Photos


Passport photos can also be purchased on premises and detailed information on passports is available at the U.S. Department of State website.

Assumed Business Names aka DBA Forms


Please see the link listed below under "Clerk's Office Resources" for a PDF copy of the form needed to apply for a DBA. Please complete the form (do not sign it), take it to a Notary Public where you will sign it in their presence, and then mail it along with a check or money order made payable to the Washington County Clerk for the amount of $27.00 to:
