Qualifications to Register to Vote

  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but cannot vote until you are 18).
  • Live at your present address at least 30 days before an election
  • Not be in prison for a felony conviction.
  • Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

You can register in person at your county board of elections or any New York State Agency-based voter registration center. Registration forms may also be picked up at your town clerk's office. Your local banks, post offices and libraries also have forms available.

You may also download a voter registration form (PDF). Once the form is completed, you need to print the form and sign it. Then, mail the form to the County Board of Elections.
