About the County Attorney

Dan Martindale was appointed the Washington County Attorney by the Washington County Board of Supervisors on January 2, 2024.  

Prior to becoming the County Attorney, he had served as Deputy County Attorney for Washington County to former County Attorney Roger Wickes since March 2005.  Prior to becoming Deputy County Attorney, Mr. Martindale was in private practice for 8 years, serving Washington and Warren Counties on both the 18-b and Attorney for the Child panels.  Mr. Martindale was also one of two contract Conflict Defenders for Washington County in 2004.

Mr. Martindale is a 6th generation Washington County resident, having initially grown up in the Town of Fort Ann.  He is a 1989 graduate of Glens Falls High School, a 1992 graduate of Syracuse University with a B.A. in political science, and a 1995 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law.  He is licensed to practice in the states of New York and New Jersey, as well as the following federal Courts; Northern District of New York, Federal District of New Jersey, United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.  

Mr. Martindale is the current attorney adviser for the Hudson Falls High School Mock Trial team, and was also President of the Washington County Bar Association from 2009-2011.
